Kamwesa Zambia Limited is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental standards, and promoting safe working practices within a fast-paced operational environment.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Develop, implement and monitor Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures and programmes.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments and safety audits.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE standards and all applicable statutory requirements.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents and near misses, and prepare comprehensive investigation reports with corrective actions.
  • Conduct employee safety inductions, toolbox talks and ongoing HSE awareness training.
  • Monitor compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safe work procedures.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, registers and statutory documentation.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills and first aid arrangements.
  • Promote continuous improvement in workplace health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Work closely with supervisors and management to ensure a safe, healthy and compliant workplace.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Management or a related field.
  • Must be registered with or hold valid membership of the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA) or another relevant professional body.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience in a manufacturing, production, processing, FMCG or similar operational environment.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and workplace safety inspections.
