Background
Our client, a reputable automotive company in Zambia, is seeking to recruit a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks and trailers. The role ensures that all vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Perform and ensure strict PDI’s are conducted and followed.
- Inspect and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
- Conduct routine servicing, inspections, and safety checks.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools.
- Perform repairs including axles, air systems, fifth wheels, and bodywork.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, roadworthiness standards, and company procedures.
- Support breakdown assistance and emergency repairs when required.
- Work closely with the parts department to identify and order required parts.
- Manage, delegate and oversee junior mechanics.
Qualifications
Key Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Automotive Parts Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Experience with diagnostic equipment and service software.
- Experience with both truck and trailer repairs is essential.
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
