The IT Systems and Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining optimal performance and security of the Authority's IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable network operations, system integrity, and efficient data management. This role combines technical expertise with proactive problem-solving to support the organization's digital operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Network Infrastructure Management
- Maintain and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls)
- Monitor network performance using tools like PRTG, SolarWinds, or Wireshark
- Ensure 99.9% uptime for critical network services
2. Systems Administration
- Administer Windows Server (2012/2016/2019) and Linux systems
- Implement patch management for OS and software updates
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies
3. Cybersecurity & Data Protection
- Deploy and update antivirus/anti-malware solutions
- Maintain firewall rules and intrusion detection systems
- Perform regular vulnerability assessments
4. Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Implement automated backup solutions for critical databases
- Test data recovery procedures quarterly
- Secure contractor registration and other sensitive data
5. User Support & Training
- Provide Level 2 technical support for hardware/software issues
- Conduct staff training sessions on new systems
- Assist with website maintenance (content updates, CMS management)
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare weekly system status reports
- Maintain network topology diagrams
- Document IT procedures and configurations
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
✔ Network protocols: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN, QoS
✔ Server administration: Windows Server, Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS)
✔ Security tools: Firewalls, SIEM, Endpoint Protection
✔ Backup solutions: Veeam, Acronis, or similar
✔ Web technologies: HTML, CMS (WordPress/Joomla)
Professional Attributes
✔ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
✔ Excellent communication and presentation abilities
✔ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
✔ High integrity and confidentiality
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Diploma in ICT/IMIS or equivalent (ZAQA-validated)
- 2+ years experience in:
- Network administration
- Windows/Linux server management
- Helpdesk/user support
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in CCNA, MCSA, or CompTIA Network+
- Experience with government ICT systems
- Knowledge of ZICTA regulations
