Reporting to the Assistant Process Manager, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Ion Exchange (IX) Plant and Process Plant Services, ensuring safety, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operations. The role oversees IX treatment Plant performance, mill relining preparation and execution, coordination of hired mobile equipment, general housekeeping services, and management of general hand labour contractors and continuous improvement across all service-related activities within the processing environment.
Responsibilities or duties
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee all hired mobile equipment allocated to Process Plant operations.
- Ensure proper scheduling, availability, utilization, and safety of hired equipment across stockpiles, concentrate shed, housekeeping zones, and mill charging tasks.
- Lead area inspections and enforce 5S principles for cleanliness and organization.
- Lead all planning, preparation, readiness, and execution activities for SAG & Ball Mill relines.
- Maintain relining checklists, readiness trackers, and weekly progress monitoring with all stakeholders.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, RME/Liner suppliers, and contractor teams on readiness.
- Track tools, consumables, spares, mill liner and bolts delivery schedules, and resource allocation.
- Control safety, execution quality, critical path management, and reporting during mill reline.
- Conduct contractor performance evaluations, audits, competence checks, and compliance inspections.
- Coordinate onboarding, safety inductions, and competency verification for contractor employees.
- Ensure all operational areas under IX and Services comply with OHS and Environmental standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, inspections, and involvement in incident investigations.
- Ensure adherence to discharge specifications, environmental controls, and brine circuit management.
- Participate in SHE meetings, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Develop and manage annual budgets for IX Plant operations and Services (labour, equipment hires, materials).
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on IX performance, brine efficiency, plant housekeeping, equipment utilization, mill reline progress, and contractor performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits, compliance inspections, and metallurgical tracking.
- Initiate and implement improvements in IX Plant operations, brine handling, resin performance, and filtration/backwashing systems.
- Mills reline planning, readiness, execution quality, and reporting.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Degree or Diploma in Metallurgy, Chemical/Process/Mining Engineering, or equivalent.
- Valid EIZ membership.
Experience needed
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in process plant operations, shutdown management, and service coordination.
- Experience in mill reline planning and IX operations is highly advantageous.
- Experience managing contractors, hired equipment, or services in a mining environment.
