Role Summary

The Legal Assistant will provide administrative, research, document management and coordination support to Panda Africa’s legal function. The successful candidate will help ensure that legal records, contracts, compliance documentation and corporate filings are accurately maintained, properly tracked and handled confidentially.

This role does not provide independent legal advice and will work under the direction of qualified legal counsel and authorised management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with drafting, formatting, reviewing and maintaining routine legal documents, including contracts, letters, agreements, notices and internal policies.
  • Maintain an organised contract repository and track key dates, renewal periods, obligations, approvals and expiry dates.
  • Support the preparation and filing of corporate, regulatory, licensing and compliance documentation as directed.
  • Conduct legal and regulatory research and prepare clear summaries for review by legal counsel or management.
  • Coordinate document execution, including obtaining signatures, maintaining signed copies and confirming that required approvals are in place.
  • Manage legal correspondence, records, registers, case files and confidential documentation.
  • Assist with due diligence processes involving customers, suppliers, partners, investors and other third parties.
  • Support the legal team in responding to internal requests relating to contracts, compliance, corporate governance and operational matters.
  • Liaise professionally with external counsel, regulators, government agencies, consultants, business partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with meeting preparation, including agendas, board or committee materials, minutes, action trackers and follow-up documentation where required.
  • Help monitor changes in applicable laws, regulations and industry requirements relevant to Panda Africa’s operations.
  • Support compliance awareness initiatives, policy implementation and training administration.
  • Perform other legal-administrative duties assigned by the Legal Counsel or management.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in Law, Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a legal assistant, paralegal, compliance, corporate administration, or similar role is preferred.
  • Experience supporting an in-house legal team, law firm, financial services organisation, technology company, or African regional business is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with contract administration, document management, legal research and corporate records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, particularly Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, and PowerPoint/Slides.
  • Experience using document-management, contract-management, or e-signature platforms is desirable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Professional judgment and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional relevant African languages are an advantage.
