Background
Responsible for supporting the Legal Department by providing high-quality legal services to the organization. This role involves assisting with a variety of legal matters, including contract review, compliance issues, corporate governance, and risk management. The employees duties shall include, but are not limited to the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
LEGAL ADVICE & DRAFTING
Provide sound legal advice and counsel to business units within the company on matters of law, ethics and good corporate governance, which minimizes legal risk to the company
Conduct legal research and analysis to support compliance efforts and resolve regulatory issues
Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken
Assist to draft and review legal documents, contracts and agreements, pleadings, affidavits, deeds, leases and applications of diverse in order to safeguard the company’s interests and ensure that documents are efficiently and effectively executed
CONTRACT & RECORD MANAGEMENT
Monitor’s expiry of contracts and tracks renewal process
Maintain organized and accurate files and records
CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
Support corporate governance activities, including preparing and distribution of meeting materials to Board and Committee Members.
Provide general administrative support to the Head of legal, including scheduling meetings and managing documentation
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
Assist in ensuring that the organization is compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Help ensure the organization’s compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
Ensures timely response to customer complaints received from all regulators and stakeholder
LITIGATION
Undertake litigation on behalf of the company
OTHER
Any other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor
Reports
Prepare monthly reports as requested by the Head of Legal
JOB REQUIREMENTS
At least two (2) years’ experience from a previous similar position,
Advocate of the high court of Zambia
Membership to the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ)
In-depth knowledge of all applicable Laws, rules and regulations.
Ability to prepare complex documents.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Proficiency in legal research tools and software
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
EDUCATION
Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 Credits including English and Mathematics
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
PERSONAL
Independent and flexible.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High level of integrity and confidentiality.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
