About the Role – Mechanical Engineer Jobs in Itezhi Tezhi
The Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the hydro power plant’s mechanical assets. The successful candidate will apply effective maintenance methodologies and coordinate activities to adhere to integrated maintenance schedules. Regular monitoring and diagnostic testing of key mechanical and hydraulic systems will be essential to maintaining optimal plant performance.
This position requires collaboration with technologists and other team members to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical support. The Mechanical Engineer will also conduct regular training sessions to keep the maintenance team updated on best practices and safety protocols.
Investigating equipment failures and tripping events to diagnose issues and recommend corrective actions through detailed breakdown analysis reports is a key responsibility. The role includes prompt response to plant defects to minimize downtime.
Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will manage documentation and records in compliance with ISO standards to monitor departmental performance. Maintaining an updated list of critical spares and ensuring their availability to reduce equipment downtime is also required.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Full Grade 12 Certificate
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Current membership with the Engineering Institute of Zambia
Minimum of ten years post-qualification experience in mechanical maintenance within hydro power plants
Strong understanding of erection, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of turbine generator units and governing systems
Experience with main inlet valves, surge shaft gate, intake gate, compressed air systems, cooling water systems, and firefighting systems
Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards related to mechanical and hydraulic systems
