The AIDS healthcare Foundation (AHF) Zambia invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following positions.

1. Nurse-in-Charge (1)

The Nurse-in-Charge is the clinical, operational, and quality lead for AHF-supported sites, responsible for delivering high-quality, digitally enabled, client-centered HIV, STI, SRH, and primary care services. This role ensures effective team leadership, optimal use of digital health platforms, data-driven decision-making, AI-supported clinical care, and adherence to national guidelines and AHF global standards.

The Nurse-in-Charge leads service delivery transformation in alignment with emerging global health trends, including differentiated models of care, telemedicine, integrated youth-friendly wellness services, and the HIV/AIDS goals.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be required to.

  • Lead provision of compassionate, stigma-free, patient-centered HIV, STI, SRH, and primary care services using evidence-based protocols.
  • Integrate digital health solutions (SmartCare+, electronic triage tools, digital appointment systems).
  • Utilize AI-supported platforms for clinical alerts, adherence risk prediction, and treatment failure detection.
  • Supervises and mentors Nurses, Dispensers, Linkage Officers, Counselors, HIV Medics, and ART Aides to ensure excellence in clinical care.
  • Lead differentiated service delivery (DSD) models: fast-track, community ART, MMD, injectable ART readiness, youth-friendly services.
  • Conduct advanced clinical triage and coordinates emergency response and outbreak management (HIV, TB, STIs, AMR, respiratory illnesses).
  • Ensure high-quality case management, documentation, and electronic records.
  • Promote integrated care models—linking HIV, TB, NCDs, SRH, and mental health.
  • Advance high standards of infection prevention and control (IPC), waste management, and clinic safety.
  • Conduct clinical audits and monthly CME sessions to maintain a high-performing clinical team.
  • Provide strategic leadership in planning, budgeting, forecasting, staffing, and resource management for the facility.
  • Oversee human resource management: coaching, deployment, performance reviews, and progressive discipline.
  • Implement performance dashboards, digital scorecards, and weekly monitoring of site KPIs.
  • Ensure adherence to AHF financial policies, ethical standards, and organizational integrity.
  • Ensure timely requisitioning, security, and maintenance of drugs, commodities, clinical equipment, and digital tools.
  • Oversee digital stock management (eLMIS, automated supply tracking) and ensure zero stock-outs.
  • Coordinate facility operations including workflow design, client experience optimization, extended hours management, and youth-friendly services.
  • Represent the site in district and partner engagement meetings, TWGs, and community collaborations.
  • Lead rapid problem-solving, quality improvement cycles (PDSA), and facility-level innovation initiatives.
  • Drive data utilization: weekly data reviews, monthly performance meetings, and corrective action planning.
  • Oversee licensing compliance for all nursing staff and maintains professional quality standards.
  • Leads Quality Improvement (QI) activities aligned to AHF’s global quality standards.
  • Ensures youth-friendly, gender-sensitive, and key-population-responsive services.
  • Promotes a culture of empathy, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Conduct routine client experience surveys, exit interviews, and service redesign based on feedback.
  • Ensures efficiency in triage, wait times, patient flow, and appointment systems

Skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship skills
  • Computer skills, proficient in the use of SmartCare and the utilization of AI tools.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Must have a Diploma in Nursing (Registered Nurse)
  • Must be a Certified HIV Nurse Practitioner
  • Diploma/Certificate in Midwifery is an added advantage
  • Degree in Nursing or Public Health will be an added advantage.
  • Must be Registered and in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ)
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in HIV treatment & care, primary care, STI/SRH services and chronic disease management.
  • Experience in digital health systems, leadership roles, or quality improvement is an added advantage.
