Overall Purpose: To be the legally designated responsible person for a specific work area or task, ensuring all work is conducted safely and according to procedure.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of a specific operation (e.g., blasting, confined space entry).
  • Perform pre-operation risk assessments and ensure all controls are in place.
  • Verify that all personnel are authorized, competent, and following safe work procedures.
  • Control access to the work area and communicate hazards.
    Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in the specific task/area they are in charge of.
  • Formal training and certification as a PIC for the relevant tasks (e.g., blasting, electrical).
  • Thorough understanding of isolation procedures and permit-to-work systems.
