POSITION SUMMARY
International Maarif Schools of Lusaka invites applications from experienced, qualified tradespeople to join our Facilities Team as a Skilled Technician in Electrical Works and Plumbing. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in both electrical installations and plumbing systems, a strong understanding of safety regulations, and a commitment to delivering high-quality technical services across all school facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Works
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and equipment throughout school premises in compliance with Zambian electrical safety standards
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of electrical installations, circuit breakers, distribution boards, and emergency systems
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults promptly to minimize disruption to school operations
- Ensure all electrical work meets current codes, regulations, and safety requirements
- Maintain accurate records of all electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance activities
- Coordinate with external electrical contractors and suppliers when required
Plumbing Works
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including water supply lines, drainage systems, sanitary fittings, and fixtures across all school buildings
- Detect and repair leaks, blockages, and water pressure issues in a timely and efficient manner
- Carry out preventive maintenance on water tanks, pumps, boilers, and sanitation systems
- Ensure all plumbing work adheres to applicable health, safety, and building regulations
General Maintenance and Compliance
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency call-outs related to electrical or plumbing faults
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of tools, spare parts, and materials, and submit requisitions as needed
- Prepare and submit regular maintenance reports to the Facilities Manager
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities as required
Safety and School Community
- Uphold and enforce health, safety, and environmental standards on all maintenance activities within the school
- Safeguard the physical safety of students, staff, and visitors by ensuring all installations and repairs are properly completed and hazard-free
- Monitor and report any structural, electrical, or plumbing hazards to management immediately
- Support junior technicians and maintenance staff through on-the-job guidance and skills transfer
- Participate in scheduled facilities meetings and school maintenance planning sessions
- Maintain confidential records of infrastructure assessments and technical findings
- Maintain regular communication with the Facilities Manager and relevant school administration
- Participate in school health and safety drills and emergency preparedness activities
- Ensure adherence to the school's technical standards, maintenance protocols, and operational guidelines
- Actively promote and uphold the school's vision, mission, and core values in all aspects of work

- Craft Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, or a related technical field from a recognized institution
- Full Grade 12 Certificate
- Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience in electrical works and/or plumbing, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting
- Current registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or relevant regulatory body
- Demonstrated competence in both electrical installations and plumbing systems, including knowledge of applicable Zambian standards and codes
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Age between 25 and 45 years
- Proficiency in English; basic computer literacy for reporting purposes
