Background information about the job or company

The Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD), founded in 1931, is an Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) that has been operating in development work since 1981. NAD’s principal task is to fight all types of barriers that prevent women, men, girls, and boys with disabilities from being active participants as well as contributors in their communities. NAD is currently working in Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.

NAD has been working in Zambia since 2009 and focuses on both specific engagement with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), disability inclusion in mainstream organisations and close collaboration with the Zambian Government.

To support our office in Lusaka, NAD is hiring a program Assistant. The position will contribute to the implementation of NAD’s efforts on disability inclusion and disability rights as well as support the multi-sector, government led programmes on Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID).

Responsibilities or duties

Under the supervision of the Country Director, the Programme Assistant shall provide hands-on, day-to-day programme and logistical support for the successful implementation of the programmes.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide support to any activity in the programmes including, but not limited to, organizing workshops and meetings such as consultative and liaison meetings with various stakeholders
  • Provide logistical support for field visits carried out by NAD staff, trainers, consultants and partners
  • Collect reports and data sheets from the programme partners for monitoring purposes
  • Contribute towards capacity building and mentorship of DPOs in areas of governance, accountability, financial management and resource mobilization
  • Assist the Programme staff and the Finance Officer in ensuring the proper documentation of the programmes and contribute to narrative reports.

Qualifications or requirements

Experience needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development studies, Human Rights, Disability Studies or any other related fields.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience including work with civil society
  • Understanding of disability issues and rights-based work is an advantage
  • Responsible, proactive and flexible working manner, as well as ability to work independently and deliver according to deadlines
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good English writing skills
