About the Role: Electrical Control Instrumentation Engineer Jobs in Kalumbila

Reporting to the Lead Electrical Control & Instrumentation Engineer – LEP, you will be an integral part of the Owner’s Project Team, taking technical ownership of electrical control and instrumentation execution across non-process and remote infrastructure. Your responsibilities will span 33 kV overhead-line networks, OPGW communications, open-pit mine dewatering systems, Tailings Storage Facility booster pump stations, remote substations, camp electrical infrastructure, generator plants, and RAP housing electrical systems.

This role demands strong leadership in field construction across multiple dispersed sites, coordinating power, communications, civil, and operational teams to ensure seamless execution from construction through energization to final handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight of non-process electrical construction, ensuring compliance with IFC drawings, specifications, standards, and codes.
  • Take ownership of 33 kV overhead-line networks including poles, conductors, protection, switching, and energization.
  • Manage OPGW and fibre communications infrastructure for remote network connectivity and substation interfaces.
  • Coordinate construction and commissioning of remote substations and associated 33 kV, 11 kV, and LV distribution systems.
  • Oversee electrical systems for open-pit mine dewatering, TSF booster pump stations, camp infrastructure, and generator plants.
  • Manage interfaces with civil works, roads, drainage, telecommunications, and other enabling infrastructure.
  • Review and resolve technical queries, RFIs, site instructions, and field changes efficiently.
  • Lead testing, commissioning, and energization activities to verify system functionality before operational handover.
  • Support operational readiness including spares, maintenance strategies, training, and documentation.
  • Drive safe project completion aligned with Barrick’s commitment to zero harm and sustainable legacy building.

Candidate Requirements

  • Full Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control & Instrumentation Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of relevant electrical engineering experience in major capital projects, preferably within mining, utilities, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven expertise in MV distribution systems, overhead lines, substations, and remote electrical infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with 33 kV overhead-line construction and commissioning; knowledge of OPGW/fibre communications is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with mine dewatering systems, tailings facilities, 11 kV distribution, mini-substations, and generator plants is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple remote construction sites and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, construction readiness, change management, and contract administration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to work on-site and actively engage with construction and commissioning teams in a dynamic environment.
