Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Project Mining Engineer – LEP (Fixed Term Contract) to join the Project Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Lead – Mining Engineer – LEP, you will be responsible for assisting with designs, plans, and overseeing large-scale surface mining operations to extract near-surface minerals by removing overburden in a series of “benches” or steps.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and timely reporting and investigation of incidents.
- Collaborate with mining production teams to deliver initiatives and integrate solutions into the project execution.
- Optimize mine operations as part of the expansion, aiming to reduce mining costs and improve project economics.
- Conduct in-depth data analyses to identify patterns and opportunities for improvement within the mining operations.
- Assist in reviewing current and expansion mine designs and monitor changes that have wider implications to greater project.
- Support mining equipment selection for the expansion and advise on the development of short to medium-term mine plans.
- Reconcile assumptions used in design and scheduling work against recent actual performance, implementing options to improve performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all required reports.
- Assist in preparing business plans and budgets for required study work.
- Convert Long Term mine plan into medium and short-range execution.
- Development and Implementation of long-term infrastructure design and execution details.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
- Minimum of a Degree in Mine Engineering
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
- A minimum of 4 years mining engineering experience. Experience in open pit operations will be added advantage.
- Holder of a Zambian blasting license
- Proven experience experience with mine designing software
- MS software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
