Duties

Job holder is a public health specialist responsible for providing technical assistance to the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) to implement public health surveillance systems and outbreak response for priority diseases in Zambia. Job holder provides surveillance, epidemiological, outbreak response and program management expertise to ZNPHI. The job holder serves as a liaison and is the primary CDC contact for issues related to CDC-supported ZNPHI priorities. Position requires regular high-level engagement with senior GRZ officials at national and sub-national levels. Position reports to the surveillance team lead.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Five years of public health experience is required in a field related directly to disease surveillance, epidemiology, outbreak response or public health program delivery and that involves coordination with domestic and/or international agencies or implementing partners. Participation in CDC’s advanced field epidemiology training program is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: The position requires: a) comprehensive knowledge of epidemiology principles, including surveillance, outbreak investigation, and emergency management; b) comprehensive knowledge of epidemiologic methods, including study design, sampling methods, and statistics and c) detailed knowledge of at least one statistical software, such as R, SAS, or Stata
Education Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in medicine, nursing, laboratory science, environmental health or veterinary medicine is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Fluent English speaking/reading/writing is required
Good working knowledge of one local Zambian language (Bemba or Nyanja) is required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent oral and written communications skills to communicate effectively with others. The ability to lead results-driven project teams and workgroups, is required. Incumbent must have a good working knowledge of Zambia-specific policies, guidelines, and procedures for disease surveillance and outbreak investigations. Incumbent must have a detailed understanding of the agency’s role and function in support of international disease surveillance of public health significance. Incumbent must have detailed knowledge of the epidemiology of infectious disease and disease surveillance principles. Keyboarding (both speed and accuracy) and good numeric skills are required.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
