Zalawi Haulage Limited seeks experienced and reliable candidates to join our dynamic QHSE team. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that all Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (QHSSE) requirements, compliance obligations, standards, and legal frameworks are implemented and maintained effectively.
The Successful candidates will Support continuous improvement initiatives and uphold a strong safety culture throughout the organization through continual improvement in the areas identified and or as requested by Senior Management.Â
Job Function:Â Â
GeneralÂ
- Ø Manage all aspects of QHSE in accordance with Group policies.
- Ø Conduct Safety and Environmental inspections and make recommendations to close anomalies.
- Ø Ensure that all employees understand their responsibilities related to QHSE mattersÂ
- Ø Assist operations department in reviewing operational procedures and processes from a QHSE perspective and suggest solutions to improve. Â
- Ø Ability to use management concepts and principles including goal setting, planning and execution, corrective actions, and risk management as and when required or deemed necessary.Â
- Ø Attend client QHSE meetings where required and plan any agreed implementation to meet client standards. Â
- Ø Conduct and or assist with risk assessments, analysis and or reporting, as and when required Â
- Ø Be proficient with first aid treatment and be able to evaluate injured persons.  If required ensure they are sent for medical treatment at a hospital or clinic with the Workers Compensation formsÂ
- Ø Co-ordinate and follow up with current HSE Committee members for HSE meetings and appropriate reporting, minutes to be forwarded to all members. Follow up on any items requiring action before the next meeting. File records Â
- Ø Be responsible for a Zalawi QHSE committee Â
- Ø Promote a positive company image during the course and scope of the performance of these duties Â
- Ø Conduct and or assist with conducting substance abuse testing as and when requiredÂ
- Ø Any other delegated tasks deemed as reasonable and as assigned by the Director Â
Management and Development of the QHSE CommitteeÂ
- Ø Ensure committee members master the necessary tools and processesÂ
- Ø Apply strategy and business processes in line with global and local standards Â
- Ø Ensure compliance with regulatory obligationsÂ
- Ø Identify competence levels and appoint key members. Ensure they have resources and time needed to share knowledge within their teamÂ
- Ø Responsible for reporting to Management, Zalawi and the GroupÂ
- Ø Report issues and propose solutions to Management as and when requiredÂ
- Ø Ensure staff discipline is implemented and maintained as per company disciplinary proceduresÂ
Inspections and HousekeepingÂ
- Ø Ensure that all equipment remains current, certified, unobstructed and is maintained in a good condition Â
- Ø Advise co-ordinator of any servicing of equipment where required with preferred supplier, or of any additional services, maintenance and/or repairs.
- Ø Ensure good housekeeping principles are maintained, and site safety remains a priority with regular inspections and site patrols.Â
- Ø Ensure that all teams conduct toolbox talks. Conduct spot checks of same ensuring that subjects discussed as well as attendance registers are filed.
- Ø Personally conduct at least one toolbox talk per month.Â
- Ø Conduct spot checks on workshop to ensure that equipment checklists are being completed, correctly and signed off by the manager/supervisor, and report deviations to the Director or alternate for awareness and training.
Awareness and trainingÂ
- Ø Conduct QHSE awareness presentations and training to employees and/or as requiredÂ
- Ø Assist line management and employees with development of work, site or other specific related QHSE awareness and trainingÂ
InductionsÂ
- Ø Conduct QHSE inductions for new staff joining the organisation in co-ordination with HR departmentÂ
- Ø Conduct safety inductions for clients and or visitors as and when requiredÂ
Reporting:Â
- Ø Provide the Director or alternate with feedback on QHSE performance for monthly HSE reports, inspections, other reports, certifications, permits, etc, as requiredÂ
- Ø Prepare and update HSE statistical tracking and trending dataÂ
- Ø Follow up and manage near miss, incidents and accidents reporting monthly to the Director or alternate to ensure close out of any outstanding issues. File all reports monthly Â
- Ø Conduct thorough incident and accident investigations where necessary with proposed corrective actions to prevent future occurrenceÂ
Contractor ManagementÂ
- Ø Ensure that contractors are inducted prior to be permitting work on siteÂ
- Ø Remove any contractors from site where they pose a safety risk to the site and or employeesÂ
Incident Investigation & Emergency ResponseÂ
- Ø Lead or support thorough investigations of all incidents, near misses, and accidents.Â
- Ø Document findings, determine root causes, and implement corrective/preventive actions.Â
- Ø Submit full investigation reports to management, clients (if required), and regulatory authorities.Â
- Ø Assist in the review and revision of Emergency Response Plans and drills.Â
- Ø Maintain an incident register with full traceability and status of closeouts.Â
Audits:Â
- Ø Conduct QHSE audits and inspections as per audit schedules or requirementsÂ
- Ø Conduct contracted transporter audits as per audit schedules or requirements to ensure that they are and remain compliant with the company’s standards and requirements.Â
- Ø Assist with client and or other QHSE audits Â
- Ø Prepare and take part in external audits, and to correct any non-conformances identified with in the stated timelines.Â
- Ø Assist management in the identification of all root causes and implementation of any corrective action plans.Â
- ComplianceÂ
- Ø Implement and maintain ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and other standards as requiredÂ
- Ø Implement and maintain other compliance requirements as and when required by the company, i.e. SQAS, DG, food safety, etc Â
- Legal and regulatoryÂ
- Ø Assist with the development and implementation of appropriate emergency response systems.
- Ø Assist in developing QHSE plans that comply with company policies and procedures, local regulatory requirements, and local client requirements as and when required.Â
- Ø Remain abreast of all relevant QHSE laws, codes of practice and standards for the relevant sites.Â
- Ø Ensure all safety signs, notices and legal display documents/posters are current and prominently displayed on site.Â
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements & Core Competencies:Â
- Ø Diploma in Health and Safety Â
- Ø Advanced Excel/WordÂ
- Ø First Aid Level 1-3 advantageousÂ
- Ø Fire Fighting Level 1 advantageousÂ
- Ø At least 5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in a similar environmentÂ
- Ø Proficient in written and spoken English with excellent report writing skillsÂ
- Ø Excellent administration skills Â

- Capturing the Workshop Job cards/ breakdown job cards for incidents.
- Printing and issuing of job cards.
- Capturing stores transactions on Syspro
- Raising of Precoro & receiving of all local purchases & documentation.
- Writing out of all petty cash requests / purchase requests.
- Documenting inter-depot transfers of inventory
- Tracking cardex cards back to shelfs.
- Collecting and issuing of spares at the stores hatch.
- Ensure that all old spares are returned & last fitted date communicated.
- Ensure that all new spares issued are engraved accordingly.
- Manages inventory of reclaimed spares from trailer brake repairs/ bonding, R&R spares, diesel tank repairs, second hand spares from stores to scrap, export of spares crates and all issues of hand tools.
- Reporting on reasons for any delays and report to HR if the cause is driver related.
- Ensure housekeeping is up to standard for the store area.
- Regular cleaning and tiding up of the stores area
- Report any incident, accidents and spillages in the yard immediately.
- Ensure all QHSE requirements are adhered too and relevant policies and procedures are followed
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the departmental and company procedure manual.
- Ensure that I understand the Rules and Regulations of all statutory bodies
- Ensure that the Zalawi Principals are adhered to.
