The incumbent will be responsible for improving the performance and quality of LIT ZM’s radio networks. This will be done primarily through the analysis of network performance, drive testing and network probe data as well as customer feedback to identify network issues and then implement solutions that will improve overall network quality in line with regulatory and company quality of service (QoS) guidelines.

To operate effectively, the incumbent shall participate in the design, implementation, and optimization of 4G and 5G radio networks for LIT ZM ensuring reliable and high-performance networks. As a specialist RF engineer, you may be required to participate on both local and group network projects, collaborating both within and across departmental and country boundaries.

1         Responsibilities

1.1        Network Optimization and Operations

  • Track and analyze network KPIs, customer feedback and drive testing logs to identify areas that require network optimization.
  • Maintain detailed records of network performance data, optimization activities and drive test results.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify the reason for poor performance
  • Develop and implement a plan of action to correct identified root cause for poor performance through physical optimization and parameter tuning to attain the required performance.
  • Guide field operations teams to attend to hardware faults resulting in poor performance of the networks
  • Supervise operations and maintenance teams / contractors that conduct routine operations and maintenance activities
  • Conduct drive testing to verify network performance before and after optimization.
  • Recommend modifications to the network designs to meet business and network quality goals
  • Work closely with network engineers to ensure network resilience aims are attained.
  • Use commercial traffic forecasts to determine capacity and coverage requirements as inputs into the radio network planning process.
  • Check and ensure that all reporting tools are polling network data correctly.
  • Ensure that all network information is backed up.

1.2        Project Implementation

  • Ensure that RF network projects are implemented according to the scope and within project constraints.
  • Develop network MOPs, project plans, task lists, procedures, and network diagram documentation necessary for the successful deployment.
  • Present design input, implement hardware changes and upgrade, and provide extensive technical support and documentation for the designed wireless access networks.

1.3        Customer Experience Management

  • Make recommendations to improve the Customer experience (latency, packet drop, Internet issues) related to the Wireless access.
  • Conduct customer site visits to determine the performance of the network from the customer perspective when poor experience is reported chronically.
  • Follow up and resolve customer issues, giving recommendations to avoid recurrence

2   Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Telecommunication/Computer Science/Electronic Engineering
  • Minimum of three (3) years of working experience in RF optimization or Radio Network operations with emphasis on 4G/5G networks
  • EIZ Membership
  • Clean and valid driving license
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems to achieve the correct outcomes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and an ability to present complex situations

Added Advantage

  • 4G/5G vendor certification, CCNP or JNCIS (Service Provider or Routing & Switching network routing/switching and transport technologies (IP, ethernet, etc.)
