JOB DETAILS:
The Racking Superintendent holds overall responsibility for directing and controlling all structural racking, support steel, and fabrication activities in support of electrical and instrumentation (E&I) installations on the Lumwana Expansion Project. This senior leadership role ensures the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of mechanical racking systems and support structures in line with project engineering specifications, contractual obligations, and industry best practices. The position demands strategic planning, cross-discipline coordination, and the ability to drive team performance in a high-pressure, large-scale mining project environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight and leadership to racking and fabrication teams, ensuring alignment with project schedules, priorities, and quality benchmarks.
Review and approve fabrication drawings, racking layouts, E&I support structures, and installation methodologies before execution.
Direct the allocation of manpower, equipment, and materials to maximise efficiency and productivity.
Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, ensuring zero-harm objectives are met.
Lead quality assurance initiatives, including inspections, audits, and verification of fabrication and racking works.
Coordinate closely with E&I, civil, and mechanical leadership to integrate racking and structural support works seamlessly into overall project delivery.
Control project-related documentation, including progress reports, material usage, and productivity tracking.
Mentor and develop team leaders, senior artisans, and apprentices to build a strong, skilled workforce.
Oversee maintenance and operational readiness of all racking tools, welding machines, and related equipment.
Support senior site management in forecasting, budgeting, and resolving technical or logistical challenges.
Lead daily safety briefings, project coordination meetings, and risk management discussions.
Minimum Requirements
Trade Test Certificate – Boilermaker (Section 13/26D) recognised by QCTO/NAMB or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including at least 2–3 years in a superintendent or senior supervisory capacity on large industrial or mining projects.
Demonstrated expertise in structural fabrication, racking systems, and mechanical supports for E&I installations.
Advanced ability to interpret technical drawings, review design compliance, and manage complex racking installations.
In-depth knowledge of HSE systems, including permit-to-work procedures and statutory compliance.
Eligibility to work in Zambia; valid passport and ability to pass site-specific medical and induction processes.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
Track record in managing racking and structural support works for major mining or infrastructure expansion projects.
Strong understanding of MEIBC agreements, labour laws, and industrial relations.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making skills under pressure.
High level of commercial awareness with the ability to optimise resources and minimise delays.
Unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
