The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced people to fill the following position in the Estate Support Services Department.

RADIO’S TECHNICIAN x 1 — PERMANENT

This position reports to the Electrical Foreman Low Voltage. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe operations and maintenance of the Estate two-way radio network infrastructure whilst driving Safety Performance. The operational performance covers Agriculture, Factory, Security and all Estate Radio Communication systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement planned maintenance budget for all radio installations (both operational and Capex) and ensure that expenditure is within the budget.
  • Promote and adhere to ABF procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
  • Create and implement communication plan with stakeholders regarding scheduled and unscheduled estate maintenance activities in area of responsibility.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of radio communication infrastructure across the Estate and other operational sites.
  • Manage the diagnosis, repair, testing and restoration of faulty communication equipment, ensuring equipment reliability and minimum service downtime.
  • Install, configure, commission and maintain base radio stations, repeaters, antennas and associated radios infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain handheld and mobile radio communication equipment, including programming and functional testing.
  • Maintain an accurate radios asset, maintenance and fault management database, including equipment history failures and completed interventions.
  • Manage the operational integrity of radios workshop, repeater stations ensuring compliance with applicable safety and technical standards.
  • Provide technical support for Saflec time and access control systems across Ndola, Lusaka and Nakambala Estate including fault diagnosis, configuration and system restoration.
  • Troubleshoot and provide technical oversite for automatic sliding gates and associated electronic access control systems.
  • Support the planning and implementation of radios systems upgrades, expansions and replacement projects, including preparation of technical specifications.
  • Ensure radios systems comply with SHEQ requirements, company standards and statutory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to contractors undertaking telecommunications installation and maintenance activities.
  • Perform other radios technical duties necessary to support the reliability, safety and continuity of operational communication systems.
  • Monitor performance and support and advise teams in solving problems and/or taking corrective action
  • Manage the performance of contractors against agreed SLAs to ensure completion of work to quality and safety standards
  • Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues

Minimum Requirements

  • Full grade 12 Certificate.
  • Advanced Technician Certificate in Telecommunications or Electronics
  • Diploma in Telecommunications or Electronics – added advantage
  • Preferably 2 – 3 years’ experience in Radio Systems Maintenance and Operations.
  • Practical knowledge of VHF/UHF radio systems, Radio repeaters, antennas and associated RF infrastructure, DC power supplies, rectifiers, batteries, chargers and backup power systems, electronic fault finding and component level troubleshooting.
  • Supervisory and interpersonal skills.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
