Background
Maamba Energy Limited (MEL) is jointly owned by Nava Global Pte. Limited and ZCCM-IH PIC. The Company owns and operates a large-scale coal mine and has also constructed and operates a 300 Mega Watt Coal Fired Power Plant to cater for the growing demand for power in Zambia.
Maamba Energy Limited is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic professional who wants to build a career in the Mechanical Department in Maamba, Sinazongwe District, Southern Province.
Job Purpose
To lead a team of technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and HVAC systems, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, efficiency, and compliance with all safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, and preventive maintenance of refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Install, repair, and service air conditioning and refrigeration systems including chillers, split units, cold rooms, and related equipment.
- Diagnose equipment failures and provide technical solutions to restore functionality.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers within Zambia/suppliers abroad to procure parts and technical support.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols in all maintenance and repair operations.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records, repair logs, and compliance reports.
- Prepare cost estimates and job plans for maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with other engineering departments to ensure alignment of maintenance schedules with plant operations and shutdowns.
- Train and mentor junior technicians.
Team Supervision
- Provide technical guidance and training to team members.
- Supervise daily work schedules and job allocations to ensure timely task completion.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend further training.
Reporting
- Compile work orders, service reports, and client handover documents.
- Contribute to weekly departmental progress reports.
Stock Control
- Maintain and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and refrigerants.
- Create new stock items in line with company procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Full Grade 12 Certificate
- Technician or Craft Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from TEVETA recognized institution
- Advanced Certificate / Diploma in Refrigeration an asset
- Minimum of 5 years practical experience in industrial RAC systems including chillers, VRF, split systems
- Experience in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems
- Registered Member of EIZ desirable

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team supervision skills
- Ability to work under pressure and in remote environments
