bout the Human Rights Commission
The Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) is a National Human Rights Institution established under Article 230 of the 1991 Constitution of Zambia. The Commission has the constitutional mandate to uphold and protect the Bill of Rights. The Commission is seeking applications from suitably qualified external candidates for the position of Research Officer-Research and Mechanisms.
The Main Purpose of the Role
To Undertake research, monitoring and state reporting functions in order to facilitate domestication of human rights standards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Manager-Research and Mechanisms and will be responsible for:
- Researching on human rights issues in order to promote fact-based decision making and human rights interventions;
- Monitoring of human rights in order to promote state compliance with human rights standards;
- Preparation of shadow reports to Treaty and charter bodies in order to be in compliance with international standards and statutory requirements; and
- Generation of list of issues in order to facilitate engagement between the state, mechanisms and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Must have a full Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ Level credits or better; and
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant Social Science.
