SAFETY OFFICER

Leos Investments Ltd -Kitwe, Copperbelt Province

Leos Investments Ltd, a leading mining contracting, diamond drilling, and transport/logistics company operating on the Copperbelt, is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to join our team in Kitwe.

Job Purpose

To promote a strong safety culture across all operational sites, ensure compliance with statutory health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, and minimise workplace risk in a mining and heavy-transport operating environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific safety plans and procedures in line with the Mines and Minerals (Development) Act and relevant HSE legislation.
  • Conduct routine site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits across drilling, transport, and workshop operations.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; prepare and submit incident reports to management and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and ongoing HSE training for employees and contractors.
  • Monitor compliance with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe operating procedures.
  • Liaise with the Mines Safety Department and other regulatory authorities on inspections and compliance matters.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, statistics, and reporting documentation.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of the company’s Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Mine Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant experience in a mining environment, preferably within mining contracting, drilling, or heavy transport operations.
  • Sound working knowledge of Zambian mining and OHS legislation.
  • Certificate in First Aid and Firefighting will be an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s licence is an added advantage.

  • Strong observational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently on site and enforce safety standards firmly but fairly.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Kitwe and travel to operational sites as required
