Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Senior Environmental Officer – Environmental Management and Systems – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Lumwana Expansion Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Coordinator Environment – LEP, you will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, monitoring and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS) across the Lumwana Expansion Project.
Responsibilities or duties
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Generating Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) and formulating sampling Plans
- Implementing, maintaining and continually improving the Environmental Management System(EMS) for the Lumwana Expansion Project in accordance with ISO 14001 and company requirements.
- Coordinating environmental audits, inspections and assurance activities, including preparation for internal, external and ISO 14001 audits.
- Maintaining and reviewing the Environmental Obligations and Risk Registers, ensuring applicable legal, regulatory, permit and project requirements are identified and tracked.
- Monitoring compliance with environmental permits, licences, legislation, approval conditions and project commitments, and coordinating timely close-out of compliance actions.
- Coordinating the identification and review of environmental aspects, impacts, risks and opportunities, and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.
- Monitoring and reporting on environmental objectives, targets, KPIs and performance, including preparation of monthly and periodic environmental reports.
- Managing environmental non-conformances, corrective actions and improvement opportunities, including root-cause analysis and verification of close-out.
- Reviewing and monitoring contractor environmental management systems and performance, including environmental plans, procedures, inspections and audits.
- Developing, reviewing and maintaining environmental procedures, plans, registers, standards and EMS documentation.
- Conducting environmental training, induction and awareness programmes for employees, contractors and project teams
- Maintaining accurate environmental records and systems to ensure effective document control, traceability and audit readiness
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering Management, Natural Resources Management or related field
- ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor Certification.
- Member of the relevant Professional Body.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Valid Zambian driver’s license.
Experience needed
Minimum Four (4) years’ relevant experience, preferably in mining, power transmission linear infrastructure, construction or major capital project.

- Knowledge of ESG and sustainability reporting principles will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring, pollution prevention and environmental control measures.
