Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager SI - Software Engineering, the Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, tests and maintains high-quality software and serves as a senior hands-on developer, resolving complex engineering problems, reviewing code and mentoring other developers.

Main Duties

• Designs and builds secure, scalable and maintainable software from approved requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Develops and maintains APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
• Contributes to architecture and technical-design reviews and enforces agreed engineering standards through peer code review.
• Writes automated unit and integration tests and follows approved source-control and branching practices.
• Investigates and resolves complex defects, performance issues and production problems, including Tier 3 incidents escalated by the Service Desk.
• Participates in release planning, deployment, verification and rollback.
• Implements application security controls, remediates vulnerabilities and addresses technical debt.
• Maintains technical documentation and works with the Business Analyst and Database Administrator on requirements, testing and optimisation.
• Mentors developers and supports knowledge transfer to partner technical teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least five years' relevant software-development experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing and supporting production web or enterprise applications.
• Experience with relational databases, APIs, testing and source-control systems.
• Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Relevant Microsoft, Java, cloud, DevOps or software-development certification.
• Experience with digital health, EHR or public-sector information systems.
• Experience with interoperability standards including HL7 FHIR.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

C#, Java, Kotlin or comparable back-end language; JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks; REST APIs; SQL; Git; automated testing; CI/CD; software design patterns; application security; debugging; performance optimisation.
