Job description:
Overall, Job Purpose
The position exists to supervise and provide support to all mining teams on mining systems and the entire site on the radio communication system. It is a supervisory role with technical capabilities for a floor manager. Included in the list of KPIs is:
• Supervise and provide technical support and fault management to the operations and maintenance teams.
• Monitor daily mesh network, two-way radio network, modular and collision avoidance operations status.
• Mining systems auditing and testing after installation.
• Resolve problems escalated from Dispatch team (1st line and 2nd line fault clearance).
• Escalate problems to OEM or vendors if required.
• Participate in 12-4 duty roster and if need be, on a standby/call out roster.
• Daily implementation of changes on mine systems and during rollout planned projects.
• Successful first-time resolution on modular hardware related queries.
• Prepare instructions for configuration changes.
• To be able to configure and test two-way handheld and mobile radios for the mine.
• To be involved in Planning & implementing Change control including firmware upgrades on mining systems.
• Provide technical support on mobile equipment in the PIT or active mining environment.
• Perform periodic configuration audits for the all the mining systems, e.g., fatigue management system.
• Design and participate in regular preventive maintenance activities.
• Advice the business on technology issues when needed.
• Provide technical daily or shift report to the mine on the activities and statuses of the mine systems and the infrastructure.
• To be able to work on the following mining and safety systems and any other new system that the mine can acquire. (a) Dispatch hardware, (b)DSS system, (c) Two-way radio, (d) Brigade products, (e)Split engineering system, (f) Rajant system, (g)Provision HPGPS system, (h) Vibration sensor systems, (i)PLM/VMHS systems
• Any other tasks as may be delegated upon by the supervisor.

Specific Job Responsibility
• Lead a team of technicians to attain KPIs.
• Provide insightful technical and logistical support.
• Guide the Maintenance and repair organization with updated performance/execution information, KPIs and management recommendations.
• Support the continuous improvement processes and initiatives and lead the defect elimination processes across the department.
• Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out as per the OEM recommendations and site-specific standards.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to subordinates, including ongoing training and development, performance management, conflict management and crisis management.
• Carries primary legal responsibility for all tasks performed during the shift and fills out the legal logbook correctly and accurately.

• Diagnose equipment problems and determines repairs needed.
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
• Practice workplace safety
• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the coordinator.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality service to the mine.
• Ensure that work orders are accurately completed and handed in to the maintenance planners in time.
• Follow reasonable instructions given by superiors.
• Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
• Supervision of interns, students on industrial attachments and trainees.

Experience required to perform in this job.
• 3-5 years’ industry hands on experience on any one or more of the mining
• systems.
• Industry experience on computer networks technologies.
• Training and hands on experience in electrical, electronics, telecommunication and
• or mining systems.
• Industry hardware experience on mining fleet management systems (FMS) e.g.
• Modular, Wenco etc.
• Training and or industry experience on VHF networks.
• Knowledge and or experience on Mesh network Rajant equipment.
• Industry experience in Transmission or point to point networks.
• Supervisory role in a technical field.
• Experience in using engineering management software Pronto is essential.
• A qualification in project management is an advantage.
• Experience in mining or other heavy industry.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications
• First Aid Certificate.
• Supervisory and Logbook Training.
• Trade/Crafts certificates or equivalent in any of the technical/engineering courses.
• Dip, Advanced certificate or certificate in Information Technology, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or Telecommunications.
• Industry certifications e.g., Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate, Motorola, Rajant etc.
• Project Management experience or qualification is an advantage.
