Job Purpose

The Tanker Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient, and compliant transportation of petroleum products. The role ensures timely fuel deliveries, strict adherence to safety standards, and full compliance with regulations issued by the Energy Regulation Board.

Key Responsibilities

Tanker Dispatch & Operations

  • Plan and coordinate tanker movements for fuel deliveries (local and cross-border).
  • Assign drivers and vehicles based on delivery schedules and operational priorities.
  • Coordinate loading schedules with fuel depots such as TAZAMA Pipelines Limited and other Oil Marketing Company depots.
  • Monitor ongoing trips to ensure timely delivery and operational efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all fuel transportation activities comply with regulations from the Energy Regulation Board.
  • Verify validity of:
    • Road Tank Vehicle (RTV) licenses
    • Petroleum haulage permits
    • Vehicle fitness certificates
    • Tanker calibration certificates
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and audits.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Enforce strict adherence to fuel transport safety protocols.
  • Ensure all tankers are equipped with fire extinguishers, spill kits, earthing cables, and hazard signage.
  • Monitor driver compliance with PPE requirements and safe loading/offloading procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency response in case of spills, accidents, or fire incidents.

Fleet Monitoring

  • Track tanker movements using GPS tracking systems.
  • Ensure route compliance and prevent unauthorized deviations.
  • Coordinate tanker maintenance, inspections, and periodic calibration.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with Oil Marketing Companies, fuel depots, and regulatory bodies including the Energy Regulation Board, Road Transport and Safety Agency, and Zambia Revenue Authority for cross-border movements.
  • Communicate trip instructions and safety expectations to drivers.

Reporting

  • Monitor delivery performance, fuel losses, and safety incidents.
  • Prepare daily and monthly operational reports for management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in tanker operations or petroleum logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of fuel transport regulations and safety standards.
  • Experience in cross-border fuel logistics is an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong planning and coordination skills.
  • High attention to detail and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a safety-critical environment.
