JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for implementing and monitoring environmental and radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role supports the organization’s efforts to minimize environmental impact, manage radiation exposure risks, and maintain workplace and public safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the technical Assistants in execution of Environmental Impact Assessments (environment, socioeconomic, health) Studies, Environmental Project Briefs, Resettlement Action Plans, Environmental Audits, Environmental Due Diligence, Ionising Radiation Surveys, Radiation Safety Management Plans, Radiation Sealed Sources Conditioning and Radiation Protection Audits in the fields of infrastructure, hydrocarbons, power and minerals & mining sector.
- Assist with Planning and preparation of environmental and radiation safety budgets.
- Assist with planning and managing environmental and radiation projects, including scope, budget, schedule, project team.
- Assesses, analyses and collates environmental and radiation performance data and reports information to regulatory bodies.
- Assist in the management of of hazardous materials and Environmental program
- Supervise assigned personnel and monitors daily hazardous materials and Environmental operations and activities.
- Monitor compliance of the operating instructions and procedures involving hazardous material requirements and processes in accordance with local and international regulations and guidelines.
- Assists in Developing and conducting hazardous Materials training to managerial, supervisory, and base personnel.
- Keeps up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation/ policy/ guidance
- Liaises with regulatory bodies such as ZEMA, RPA and MSD
- Consults and attends meetings with regulators to establish and maintain good relationships.
- Understands the environmental services industry and monitors and communicates new market drivers and regulatory changes.
- Support risk assessments and mitigation strategies related to Environmental and radiation hazards.
- Performs any other duties as reasonably assigned from time to time.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Financial Responsibilities 1.1 Lead the section budgeting process to provide value driven budgeting process that enhances the implementation of the company’s strategic plan.
Monitor the budget performance within the Analytical Services Section.
Identify areas of cost improvements by providing identified initiatives within the Analytical Services.
Responsibility for physical assets
Ensure prudent utilisation of company resources in the department.
Monitor the compliance and maintenance of the company resources.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- GCE or equivalent with credits or better in five subjects including English and Mathematics
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of environmental and radiation management experience
- Professional membership with a recognised professional body
