Role Summary

M31 Research is seeking an experienced Tobacco Research Expert to support an upcoming research project examining the tobacco use landscape in Zambia. The role will focus on providing technical expertise on research tools and findings to support project implementation and high quality research outputs.

A key component of the role will be to be part of the internal Tobacco Advisory group to guide the organisation’s work on the project.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and research team to refine data collection tools, enumerator manual, and review the final report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide insight to support the project team in navigating the tobacco landscape in Zambia.
  • Participate in the internal Tobacco Advisory group meetings to guide project implementation.
  • Offer technical input on the final fieldwork research report.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in tobacco policy, public health research, or regulatory policy analysis.
  • Experience working with government institutions, civil society organisations, research institutions, and development partners.
  • Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the tobacco policy frameworks in Zambia or the Southern African region.
  • Experience contributing to policy reports, research publications, or national tobacco control initiatives.
  • Experience with supporting technical advisory boards or policy working groups.
  • Expertise in household or infrastructure surveys.
