Responsibilities or duties

The key responsibilities for this role include but not limited to the following:

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all financial records.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations, ensuring timely review and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Prepare and monitor accruals, provisions, and prepayments, ensuring timely clearance of long-outstanding items.
  • Ensure daily transfer and posting of transactions from subsidiary systems to the general ledger, resolving exceptions promptly.
  • Conduct monthly trial balance reviews and analysis, highlighting variances and correcting mis-postings.
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers, inventory valuations, and control accounts to the general ledger.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Produce and analyse cost centre operating expenditure (Opex) reports to support accurate departmental reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with MTN Finance policies, IFRS, and statutory requirements, maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and control.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Grade 12 certificate with 5 credit or better of which English and Mathematics are a must

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or professional qualification (ACCA or equivalent)

Experience needed

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial or general ledger accounting

Strong working knowledge of IFRS and general accounting principles

Proven experience with general ledger reconciliations, trial balances, and month‑end close

Experience in a telecommunications or highly regulated environment is advantageous.
