Our client is looking for an experienced, compliant, and competent Accountant to join their team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensure full compliance with Zambian statutory and tax requirements, and act as the key liaison between the local finance function and our European head office accountants. The role reports directly to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

General & Daily Accounting

  • Daily accounting and bookkeeping
  • Maintain general ledgers
  • Prepare income statements
  • Fixed asset journals and register maintenance
  • Inventory, raw materials, and finished goods journals

Invoicing & Registers

  • Maintain register of received purchase invoices
  • Maintain register of issued sales invoices
  • Accounts receivable month-end processing and reconciliation
  • Accounts payable month-end processing and reconciliation

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Maintain VAT register and prepare monthly VAT reporting
  • Handle ZRA tax registrations
  • Prepare and submit ZRA tax reporting (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, Turnover Tax as applicable)
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (Companies Act, Labour Act, ZRA regulations)
  • Payroll processing, including PAYE, NAPSA, and NHIMA contributions and remittances

Reporting

  • Prepare annual financial statements in line with IFRS/local GAAP requirements
  • Liaise with external auditors during annual audits
  • Liaise regularly with the European head office accountants on reporting, reconciliations, and group requirements
  • Report directly to the Managing Director on financial performance and compliance matters

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, ZICA Diploma or CA Level II or Equivalent.
  • Professional accounting qualification ( ZICA, CA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent)
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience in an accounting role, preferably within FMCG or a manufacturing/distribution environment
  • Must be a registered member of ZICA (Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants)
  • Qualification results must be verifiable by ZAQA (Zambia Qualifications Authority)
  • Strong working knowledge of Zambian tax law and ZRA e-filing systems (Tax Online)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Zoho Books, Dropbox, Microsoft office, or similar ERP systems) and MS Excel
  • Sound understanding of NAPSA and NHIMA statutory obligations

Key Competencies

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, able to meet strict monthly and statutory deadlines
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to liaise professionally with an international head office team
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling financial data
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to compliance and process improvement
