Job Overview:

The Accountant supports the Finance Department by managing bookkeeping, payments, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The role ensures timely processing of employee, vendor, and statutory payments, maintains accurate financial records, and supports compliance with internal controls and external audit requirements.

Job Description:

1. Payments & Bookkeeping

  • Coordinate Field-related payments and reporting for employees.
  • Prepare monthly supplier reconciliations
  • Facilitate timely payments to vendors while ensuring all supporting documentation is in place.
  • Effect payments to employees traveling on official assignments.
  • Initiate bank payments and communicate with authorizing personnel for approvals.
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash fund and liaise with the Sales team for timely replenishment.
  • Post payments and match them to respective invoices in the system promptly.

2. Cash & Bank Management

  • Maintain daily cashbook records to ensure accurate tracking of transactions.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations to confirm accuracy of records.
  • Support effective cash management by monitoring balances and reporting discrepancies.

3. Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly schedules to support auditors and statutory reporting, including NAPSA, NHIMA, and PAYE.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly journals.
  • Prepare and maintain prepayment schedules for rent across multiple shop locations.

4. Documentation & Records Management

  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of all financial transactions.
  • Support accurate record keeping for audit and compliance requirements.

5. Other Duties

  • Collaborate with other departments to support financial processes and reporting.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities assigned by management in line with the role.

Qualification & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Valid membership/practicing license with Zambian Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Excellent computer skills
