The Accounts Clerk is responsible for supporting the firm’s daily financial operations by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing invoices, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. The role also ensures compliance with accounting standards, legal requirements, and the firm’s internal policies while maintaining the confidentiality of financial and client information.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and receivable.
- Record financial transactions and prepare payment vouchers, receipts, and journal entries.
- Reconcile bank accounts, cash books, and petty cash.
- Prepare client invoices, monitor outstanding balances, and assist with collections.
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation.
- Manage client trust account transactions and reconciliations where applicable.
- Assist with payroll processing and statutory deductions.
- Support the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and audits.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, statutory obligations, and firm policies.
- Assist with procurement, supplier payments, and other finance-related administrative duties.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ZICA Technician) is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with integrity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Timely bank and trust account reconciliations.
- Efficient client billing and debt collection.
- Compliance with statutory and internal reporting requirements.
- Well-maintained financial records with minimal audit findings.
Working Conditions
- Office-based position with occasional extended hours during month-end, year-end, or audit periods.
