Background

ZABS is a statutory body currently operating under the Standards Act No. 4 of 2017. Under this Act, ZABS is mandated to provide Standardization and Quality Assurance services to industry in order to support production of goods and services of acceptable quality for national, regional and international markets. ZABS also acts as a link between local industry and regional and international standardization and quality assurance (SQA) organizations.

JOB PURPOSE

To conduct tests and provide analytical data and related information in the Electrical and Solar Product Testing laboratory and any other fields deemed competent in line with ISO/IEC 17025 standard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To perform laboratory and field test work as required in accordance with approved test methods and procedures.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
  • To carry out sampling and sample preparation in accordance with approved procedures.
  • To ensure that equipment and apparatus are in good condition before and after use and isolate defective equipment.
  • To monitor receipt, storage of both electrical and solar product samples and maintain records
  • To compile test reports and other reports on work carried out for submission to superiors.
  • Carry out investigations on customer complaints and provide timely feedback
  • Competent in operating Battery analyzers, Crank testers, multimeter (analogue and digital), Solar testing equipment, insulation resistance testers, conductor resistance tester and high voltage tester
  • To carry out appropriate checks and tests to ensure the accuracy of test results.
  • Assist superiors in maintaining a credible quality assurance system.
  • Plan work to ensure Turn Around Time (TAT) of results compliance and monitor consumables to minimize disruption to operations.
  • To monitor environmental conditions in accordance with established procedures and take necessary precautions to avoid accidents.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Diploma in electrical and electronics or equivalent.
  • Degree is an added advantage.
  • ZAQA qualifications verification certificates
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge and skill in the international standards (ASTM, IEC, BS, ISO, ARSO etc)
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Computer Literate in Excel and Word Processing.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports in English
  • Ability to speak fluent English and communicate clearly with clients and superiors
  • Sober character, ethical and capable of handling confidential matters.
  • Conversant with laboratory safety, health and environment matters.

CONDITIONS

The position above falls under the Management conditions of service category.

The positions listed under Items 2 to 9 above fall under the Permanent and Pensionable Conditions of Service category.
