Background

Harvest University is a private owned University accredited by the Higher Education Authority Act No 23 of 2021 to provide higher education programs in selected Diploma and Degree programs. The University’s core business is teaching, research and consultancy. JOB PURPOSE:

To support the effective operation of the library by providing technical and other user services, ensuring proper organization of library resources and delivering high-quality information and reference services to users.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform cataloguing and classification of library materials using approved standards and classification systems.
  • Conduct regular shelf reading to ensure proper arrangement of collections.
  • Manage the circulations desk, including issuing, returning, renewing, and reserving library materials
  • Assist in collection development activities, including selection, acquisition and weeding of library resources.
  • Operate, manage and maintain the integrated library system (ILS), particularly KOHA, for cataloguing, circulation, and reporting functions.
  • Provide reference and information services to library users, including guidance on research and resource use.
  • Assist users with accessing electronic resources and online databases
  • Prepare reports as required and make recommendations related to improving procedures in the library.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to organize and manage information
  • Basic knowledge of library classification systems
  • Proficiency with computer systems and library management software
  • Communication skills to effectively interact with patrons

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate
  • Bachelors Degree in Library and information Science or related field
  • Computer literate
  • Age: Above 25 years
  • 2 years work experience
  • Professional membership is a must
