Background

Apostolic Voice Education Trust (AVET) is a Christian faith-based nonprofit organization working to transform communities across Africa through education, mental health support, economic empowerment, and media. As our programmes grow — including Apostolic Voice University, our Community Mental Health and First Aid programme, our Leadership Development and Mentorship Programme, and Ubuntu Vision Studios — we need a dedicated team of volunteers to help us manage our people: recruiting them, welcoming them, and keeping our records and policies in order.

We are opening 5 volunteer positions on our new Volunteer HR Team. Below is everything you need to know before you apply.

IMPORTANT: THIS IS AN UNPAID VOLUNTEER POSITION.

There is no salary or payment attached to any of these roles. This is a volunteer opportunity to serve, gain experience, and contribute to a meaningful mission. Please only apply if you are able and willing to serve without pay.

THE 5 POSITIONS AND WHAT EACH PERSON WILL DO

1. Volunteer HR Team Lead / Coordinator — 1 person needed

This person leads the small HR volunteer team. Day to day, you will:

  • Organize short check-in meetings with the rest of the HR team (weekly or every two weeks)
  • Keep track of which volunteer and staff positions across AVET are open and still need to be filled
  • Help sort out any small disagreements or problems within the team, and pass on anything serious to AVET leadership

2. Volunteer HR Officer — Recruitment & Onboarding — 2 people needed

This person helps find and welcome new volunteers and staff. Day to day, you will:

  • Help write and share job/volunteer adverts on different platforms
  • Read through applications that come in and pick out suitable candidates
  • Have short conversations (calls or messages) with candidates to learn more about them
  • Welcome new volunteers once they are accepted — send them a welcome message, explain what happens next, and help them settle into their role
  • Keep a simple, organized list of who has applied and who has been accepted

3. Volunteer HR Officer — Policy, Compliance & Records — 2 people needed

This person makes sure AVET's paperwork and policies are properly followed. Day to day, you will:

  • Keep track of which Board members, staff, and volunteers have read and signed AVET's official policies
  • Follow up politely with anyone who hasn't signed yet
  • Keep personal files and records neat, organized, and confidential (never shared with anyone outside AVET)
  • Flag to the team if any records or paperwork are missing

WHO CAN APPLY

Anyone who shares AVET's Christian values and mission to transform communities

No specific degree is required — what matters most is that you are organized, reliable, and comfortable talking to people

Some experience with HR, recruitment, admin, or organizing people is helpful but not required — we will guide you

HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED

About 5–8 hours per week

Flexible — you can fit it around your own school, work, or other commitments

WHERE YOU WILL WORK FROM

This role can be done remotely, from anywhere

Occasionally, the team may meet in person in Lusaka, Zambia — this is optional and not a strict requirement

WHAT TOOLS YOU'LL USE

Everyday tools like WhatsApp, Google Docs/Sheets, and email

You will be shown how to use AVET's simple recruitment tracking system — no special software knowledge needed beforehand

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE IN RETURN

  • Meaningful, faith-driven work that helps real communities across Africa
  • A Certificate of Volunteer Service once you complete a minimum term
  • A reference letter you can use for future jobs or studies
  • Mentorship and hands-on experience in HR, recruitment, and nonprofit work
  • Organize short check-in meetings with the rest of the HR team (weekly or every two weeks)
