The successful candidate will provide faithful spiritual leadership, sound biblical teaching, pastoral care, and overall guidance to the congregation in line with the doctrine, vision, mission, constitution, and values of the Evangelical Church in Zambia.
Position Summary
The Pastor shall be responsible for preaching, teaching, discipleship, pastoral care, counselling, worship leadership, church administration, leadership development, evangelism, missions, and community engagement. The role requires a spiritually mature servant leader who is able to shepherd the congregation with humility, integrity, wisdom, and biblical faithfulness.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver biblically faithful, clear, relevant, and Christ-centred sermons.
- Lead Bible studies, prayer meetings, discipleship classes, leadership training, and other teaching ministries.
- Provide pastoral care, biblical counselling, prayer, visitation, encouragement, and spiritual guidance to church members.
- Lead worship services, sacraments or ordinances, dedications, weddings, funerals, and other church functions in accordance with church doctrine and practice.
- Work with elders, deacons,deaconesses, ministry leaders, committees, staff, volunteers, and the congregation in a spirit of teamwork and accountability.
- Support church administration, planning, record keeping, stewardship, policy compliance, evangelism, missions, outreach, and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements
1. Personal and Spiritual Qualifications
- Must be a born-again Christian with a clear personal testimony of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Must demonstrate a genuine calling to pastoral ministry and a life committed to prayer, worship, discipleship, and service.
- Must meet the biblical standards for church leadership, including being above reproach, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy, and of good reputation within and outside the church.
- Must demonstrate spiritual maturity, humility, integrity, compassion, and a servant-hearted attitude.
- Must be committed to living a life consistent with Christian doctrine, morality, and the values of the Evangelical Church in Zambia.
2. Age Requirement
The candidate must be between 35 and 55 years of age at the time of appointment, reflecting the church’s desire for a mature leader with adequate life, ministry, and leadership experience.
3. Educational and Theological Qualifications
- Must be a degree holder from a recognized institution.
- A degree in Theology, Biblical Studies, Divinity, Christian Ministry, Pastoral Studies or a related field shall be preferred.
- Must have sound knowledge of the Bible, Evangelical Church in Zambia doctrine, church history, discipleship, preaching, pastoral care, and church leadership.
- Additional training in counselling, Management, leadership, administration, youth ministry, missions, or community development shall be an added advantage.
4. Ministry Experience
- Must have a proven record of pastoral or ministry experience in a Bible-believing evangelical church.
- Should have experience in preaching, teaching, discipleship, pastoral counselling, visitation, church administration, and leadership of ministry teams.
- Should demonstrate experience in working with different age groups, including children, youth, adults, couples, families, and the elderly.
- Experience in church growth, missions, outreach, evangelism, and community engagement shall be an added advantage.
5. Doctrinal Alignment
- Must fully subscribe to and uphold the statement of faith, vision, mission, constitution, policies, and doctrinal position of Evangelical Church in Zambia.
- Must believe in the authority, inspiration, and sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures.
- Must be committed to Christ-centred preaching, sound doctrine, evangelism, discipleship, and the spiritual growth of the congregation.
- Must be willing to teach and defend biblical truth with grace, humility, and courage.
6. Preaching, Teaching, and Worship Leadership
- Must be able to prepare and deliver biblically faithful, clear, relevant, and Christ-centred sermons.
- Must be able to lead Bible studies, prayer meetings, discipleship classes, leadership training, and other teaching ministries.
- Must provide spiritual direction for worship services, sacraments or ordinances, dedications, weddings, funerals, and other church functions in accordance with church doctrine and practice.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English and, where possible, in local languages commonly understood by the congregation.
7. Pastoral Care and Counselling
- Must have a shepherd’s heart and demonstrate genuine care for the spiritual, emotional, and practical needs of church members.
- Must be able to provide biblical counselling, encouragement, prayer, and guidance to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
- Must be willing to visit and minister to the sick, bereaved, elderly, new believers, struggling members, and those in crisis.
- Must maintain confidentiality, wisdom, and discretion in handling sensitive pastoral matters.
8. Leadership and Administration
- Must possess strong leadership, planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to work with church elders, deacons, ministry leaders, committees, staff, volunteers, and the congregation in a spirit of teamwork and accountability.
- Must be able to guide the church in developing and implementing ministry plans, evangelism strategies, discipleship programmes, and community outreach initiatives.
- Must support proper church administration, record keeping, financial accountability, policy compliance, and stewardship of church resources.
- Must be able to mentor, train, encourage, and develop leaders within the church.
9. Character, Ethics, and Conduct
- Must demonstrate honesty, transparency, accountability, discipline, and faithfulness in both private and public life.
- Must not be involved in conduct that brings disrepute to the church or contradicts biblical moral standards.
- Must be free from addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, or any other destructive habit.
- Must demonstrate financial integrity and should not be driven by the love of money.
- Must be peace-loving, approachable, patient, teachable, and able to resolve conflict biblically and fairly.
10. Family and Social Life
- The candidate must be married and must demonstrate faithfulness to his wife and responsible leadership of his household.
- His family life should reflect Christian values, order, respect, and integrity.
- He should enjoy a good reputation among church members, the wider Christian community, and society.
- He should be able to relate well with people of different backgrounds, ages, cultures, and social standing.
11. Legal and Professional Requirements
- Must be legally eligible to work in Zambia.
- Must provide certified copies of academic and professional qualifications.
- Must provide references from previous churches, ministry leaders, employers, or reputable Christian leaders.
- Must be willing to undergo background checks, reference checks, and any other verification process required by the church.
- Ordination, licensing, or formal recognition as a minister of the gospel shall be required or strongly preferred, depending on the church’s governance requirements.
