Job Scope:

The Civil Supervisor is responsible for direct on site supervision, workforce coordination and execution of construction activities. The role focuses on practical implementation and daily site operations.

Job Description

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of site labour, ensuring tasks are executed according to project plans and specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to workers, clarifying construction methods and resolving on-site challenges.
  • Ensure proper use of materials, tools and equipment, minimizing waste and maintaining efficiency.
  • Interpret construction drawings and explain technical details to site teams for accurate execution.
  • Monitor quality of workmanship and enforce compliance with safety standards and building codes.
  • Organize and allocate manpower effectively to meet project deadlines.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential issues and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Liaise with engineer and contractors to align site activities with overall project objectives.
  • Maintain daily records of labour attendance, work progress and material usage.
  • Train and mentor site workers on technical aspects, safety practices and efficient construction techniques.
  • Ensure site cleanliness, orderliness and adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Report site progress, challenges and resource needs to the site engineer.
  • Assist in testing materials (concrete, soil, blocks, steel) to ensure compliance with technical standards.
  • Support in preparing BOQs and verifying quantities during construction.
  • Oversee minor repairs, adjustments and maintenance of structures during and after project completion.
  • Conduct surveying and levels marking to establish reference points, elevations, and alignments for construction works.
  • Ensure proper setting out of foundations, columns, walls, and other structural elements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • All academic qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
  • Must be a registered and fully paid-up member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Must possess a valid practicing license
  • Minimum of 8 – 10 years of relevant work experience in construction projects
