Background

Drives and controls heavy machinery to compress soil, asphalt, or waste materials, ensuring stable, dense surfaces in construction, road building, or landfill operations.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation: Drive rollers or compactors to compress earth, gravel, asphalt, or waste materials to specified density and smoothness.

Maintenance & Safety: Perform daily pre-trip inspections, check fluids, and conduct routine maintenance (e.g., clearing debris from drums) to ensure optimal performance.

Site Coordination: Work with construction crews or waste management teams to interpret site plans and achieve correct grade/slope.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all site-specific, local, and federal safety protocols.

Requirements

Experience: Proven experience operating heavy equipment, specifically compactors or rollers.

Technical Skills: Understanding of material compaction techniques, soil types, and, for asphalt, temperature monitoring.

Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.

Licenses: Valid driver's license, often with a Class A or B commercial license (CDL) depending on the vehicle

Grade 12 a must

Work Environment

Locations: Landfills, construction sites, road maintenance projects in a mining environment

Conditions: Exposure to noise, dust, and, in some cases, hazardous materials (landfills).
