Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit highly committed employees for the position of Construction Superintendent – Housing – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Project Department. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Project Manager – LEP, you will be responsible for leading the construction of the Manyama Employee Housing Development and the Kamisengo RAP Housing Development, including the delivery of all associated civil and municipal infrastructure.
Responsibilities or duties
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide overall leadership for planning, coordination, execution, monitoring, and close-out of all housing and supporting infrastructure construction activities, ensuring successful delivery of project objectives.
- Lead the execution of multidisciplinary civil infrastructure works, including bulk earthworks, roads, stormwater drainage, water reticulation, sewer reticulation, water treatment plants, sewer treatment plants, utility services, and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with approved engineering designs and technical specifications.
- Develop, implement, and maintain integrated project execution strategies, construction schedules, resource plans, recovery plans, and milestone tracking systems to achieve project delivery targets.
- Exercise full construction oversight of contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers by managing performance, productivity, contractual compliance, commercial obligations, claims, variations, and overall project delivery.
- Coordinate interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of work packages and effective resolution of technical and operational constraints.
- Drive construction quality by ensuring effective QA/QC implementation, inspection and test plans, material compliance, construction verification, defect management, and successful commissioning and handover of completed facilities.
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage project risks relating to safety, quality, cost, schedule, constructability, logistics, environmental compliance, and stakeholder engagement through appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Lead project governance activities, including project scoping, constructability reviews, cost-benefit evaluations, budget development, project charters, Appropriation for Expenditure (AFE) documentation, change management, and project reporting.
- Establish effective construction management systems to monitor progress, productivity, earned value, cost performance, resource utilisation, and schedule adherence while implementing timely corrective actions where required.
- Foster productive relationships with local authorities, regulatory agencies, community representatives, and project stakeholders to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Lead the technical review of engineering deliverable drawings, ensuring they are complete, coordinated, constructible, compliant with applicable codes and project standards, and suitable for construction before implementation.
Qualifications or requirements
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline from a recognised institution.
- Registered Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D software and MS Office Suite, MS Project, Primavera or other project management software.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, negotiation, communication, stakeholder engagement, and team management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Sound knowledge of occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems, together with applicable Zambian legislation, engineering standards, and construction best practices.
- Must have a valid Manual Driver’s License.
Experience needed
Minimum of eight (8) years’ progressive experience in construction supervision and management, with demonstrated experience leading housing and large-scale civil infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience in the construction and commissioning of water treatment plants, sewer treatment plants, water and sewer reticulation systems, and associated municipal infrastructure.
