About Green Safaris
The Country Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance, technical operations, and infrastructure upkeep across multiple properties within the country. The purpose of this is role is ensures that the best possible results are obtained from all the Company’s assets. That extends to the facilitiesbuildings, portable and permanently installed equipment, vehicles, boats, bikes, water and electrical reticulation, and as well as the Photovoltaic and battery storage energy systems. Keeping them operatinge at optimal performance for their full life cycle whilste aligning their maintenance and upkeep with company standards, strategic objectives, sustainability goals, best practice and budget requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Oversight, Administration, and Planning
- Serve as the primary point of contact for guests, ensuring strong communication between Green Safaris lodges, guests, and agents.
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies to ensure the optimal functioning of all facilities, infrastructure, systems, and equipment.
- Supervise, guide, and coordinate maintenance teams across multiple properties to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure prompt resolution of issues.
- Establish a strong preventative maintenance culture to minimize downtime, operational disruptions, and long-term asset degradation.
- Oversee the upkeep of guest rooms, public areas, service areas, back-of-house spaces, and all critical infrastructure.
- Design and redesign the system of work used to implement and record maintenance in the organisation, including the generation and analysis of data used to support decision making.
- Design, implement, and continuously refine property-appropriate SOPs, ensuring adherence through training and follow-up audits.
- Documentation of both works executed and work planning through the implementation of job cards, project files, Bill of quantities, drafting of plans and project management.
- Assist the Group Environmental and Technical Officer in the execution of their duties.
- Collaboration with General Managers and their Teams
- Maintain strong communication and alignment with each property’s General Manager to support operational goals, guest satisfaction, and brand standards.
- Participate in strategic planning activities, contributing technical expertise to budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term asset management.
- Provide consistent updates, performance reports, and maintenance/environmental metrics to senior management, including weekly catchups and month-end reporting.
- Work closely with General Managers on annual technical budgets, ensuring that maintenance needs, upgrades, compliance requirements, and capital expenditures are properly planned and included.
- Provide guidance to members of the technical services team and contribute to their learning and development.
- Solar & Power Infrastructure Management
- Monitor and analyse solar infrastructure performance using various apps systems and dashboards.
- Produce data-driven reports on solar energy generation, usage trends, deficits, generator run-times, and overall efficiency.
- Manage electrical load balancing across camps and operational zones to optimize power distribution and equipment longevity.
- Set up, program, and oversee “smart Wi-Fi breakers,” ensuring efficient power consumption and reducing unnecessary loads.
- Identify opportunities for energy-saving initiatives and support the company’s sustainability objectives.
- Equipment Oversight
- Conduct regular spot checks on all types of equipment, including vehicles, boats, bikes, plumbing & electrical reticulationacross all properties to ensure safety, compliance, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with workshop and mechanical teams to ensure all vehicles and vessels receive appropriate servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
Key Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Technical Maintenance, Construction Management, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in maintenance, technical operations, facilities management, or engineering—preferably within remote lodges, camps, resorts, or similar off-grid operations.
- Strong technical expertise across multiple disciplines, including electrical systems, plumbing, solar PV systems, battery storage, generators, mechanical equipment, vehicles, boats, and structural maintenance.
- Proven experience developing and running preventative maintenance programs and using data-driven systems to plan, track, and analyse maintenance activities.
- Exceptional leadership abilities, with experience supervising multi-disciplinary technical teams across multiple locations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with General Managers, workshop teams, senior leadership, and external contractors.
- Strong project management skills, including experience with job cards, project files, BOQs, drawing interpretation, procurement processes, and contractor supervision.
- Competence in interpreting dashboards, monitoring solar performance systems, and making decisions based on energy data, load management, and usage trends.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure and asset life-cycle management, ensuring long-term protection and optimisation of company assets.
- Experience developing SOPs, technical standards, safety systems, and maintenance workflows, with the ability to train staff and enforce adherence.
- Financial and budgeting awareness, including planning for CAPEX, OPEX, asset replacement cycles, and cost-efficient resource use.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and execute maintenance tasks in a structured and timely manner across multiple properties.
- Ability to work independently in remote and sometimes challenging environments, solving problems hands-on and responding quickly to operational disruptions.
- Familiarity with sustainability principles, renewable energy operations, and environmentally responsible maintenance practices.
