Job Summary
The Database Administrator ensures the availability, integrity, performance, security and recoverability of production and non-production databases.
Main Duties
- Installs, configures, upgrades and administers relational database systems across development, testing, staging and production environments.
- Monitors database availability, performance, storage growth and capacity, and resolves performance bottlenecks.
- Reviews and optimises SQL queries and advises software engineers on database design.
- Implements and verifies backups, conducts restoration testing and maintains replication, high-availability and disaster-recovery mechanisms.
- Manages database accounts, roles and privileges, and supports auditing, logging and security hardening with the Cybersecurity Expert.
- Implements approved schema changes, data migrations and upgrades, including database releases through CI/CD pipelines.
- Investigates and resolves database incidents escalated through the Service Desk.
- Maintains database architecture, configuration and recovery documentation and supports knowledge transfer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field.
- At least four years' relevant database-administration or advanced database-management experience.
- Demonstrated experience administering enterprise relational database systems.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle or comparable professional certification.
- Experience with large health databases.
- Cloud database-administration experience.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL/MySQL; SQL optimisation; backup and recovery; replication; high availability; database security; indexing; monitoring; capacity management; schema management; data migration.
