Background

Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Sugar Company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products. The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position at Nakambala Private School:

Role Context

This position will be reporting to the Head Teacher. This is a senior leadership role for a dedicated professional who will combine subject expertise with strong administrative and organizational skills to ensure academic excellence, effective school management, and compliance with national education standards.

Responsibilities

  • Examinations Management: Prepare the school for Grade 9 and 12 national examinations in line with Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) regulations. Ensure secure storage of examination papers in a safe metal box within a strong room. Supervise invigilators to prevent examination malpractice. Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, proper sitting arrangements, and adequate furniture. Brief candidates on examination guidelines, verify identity cards, and conduct checks to prevent unauthorized materials. Collaborate with external examiners and prepare examination reports for submission to ECZ.
  • Admissions & Induction: Receive and induct new pupils into the school. Organize and oversee selection tests, ensuring transparency and accountability. Enrolling pupils accepted by the Head Teacher.
  • Pupil Welfare & Discipline: Uphold the school Code of Conduct, dress code, and road safety regulations. Chair the Disciplinary Committee and handle pupil cases before escalation. Promote participation in clubs, sports, and co-curricular activities. Supervise prefects, issue passes, and oversee preventive maintenance for classroom cleanliness. Ensure teachers mark attendance registers daily.
  • Curriculum & Instructional Oversight: Ensure teachers prepare Schemes of Work, Records of Work, lesson plans, and teaching aids in line with the approved curriculum. Inspect and approve teaching documents and end-of-term tests for quality compliance. Monitor science practicals, production unit activities, and curriculum adherence. Organize educational tours, field trips, and in-house workshops to update teachers on curriculum changes. Ensure procurement of appropriate textbooks and learning materials.
  • Scheduling & Academic Support: Prepare and manage the school schedule each term. Ensure adherence to schedules by teachers and pupils. Prepare personal schemes of work, records of work, and lesson plans. Administer weekly, monthly, and termly tests, offering remedial lessons to slow learners. Organize school assemblies and encourage participation in co-curricular activities such as JETS, Girl Guides, and Red Cross.
  • Career Guidance & Counseling: Provide professional guidance to pupils on career aspirations. Register candidates for Grade 9 and 12 examinations and manage examination fees. Analyze examination results and issue statements of results and certificates.
  • Administrative Duties: Serve as the principal assistant to the Head Teacher and act in their absence. Support the Head Teacher in managing the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full grade 12 Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education (Specialization in Mathematics and possession of a Master’s degree will be added advantage).
  • Preferably 5-7 years teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire staff and students towards excellence.
  • Knowledge of Zambian education policies and standards.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
