Project summary

The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) under the Controlling HIV Epidemic Program (CHEP) project will be implementing the HIV program to reach sustainable control of the HIV epidemic through the lens of the Zambia national HIV targets and the America first vision.Advertise in Zambia

The program goal is to support the Ministry of Health to reach sustainable control of the HIV epidemic, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) services and GHS activities across three provinces namely, Copperbelt, Central and Northwestern by implementing a person-centered HIV prevention, care and treatment program. aligned with the Ministry of Health Vision.

The CHEP project will work in collaboration with Ministry of Health teams at provincial, district and facility level and other stakeholders to:

  • Increasing coverage of comprehensive and client-centered HIV testing, prevention, diagnosis, care, and treatment services in communities and health facilities to reach and maintain the 95-95-95 targets.
  • Increasing utilization of community and facility-based quality, person-centered, integrated vertical transmission prevention (VTP), and other MNCH HIV services.
  • Increasing capacities of Ministry of Health to gradually transition Direct Service Delivery (DSD) of quality integrated health services and sustain services beyond project activity implementation.

The District Clinical Lead mentor administratively and technically to the provincial VTP mentor. The District Vertical Transmission Prevention Mentor will work in collaboration the paediatric clinical mentor, MoH district PMTCT officer and MCH in-charges to provide direct services and support quality care services in the management of HIV/AIDS in pregnant and breastfeeding women, infant and HIV exposed infants in respective facilities the respective districts. He/she will ensure smooth implementation of the national PMTCT/VTP guidelines and MCH service package in all supported facilities within their respective districts.

Main duties

  • Liaise with district Paed clinical mentor, district PMTCT/VTB officer, HIV Testing and Prevention mentors, facility In-charges (MCH) to support smooth delivery of HIV-related clinical care services in MCH and Labor wards
  • Provide direct service and mentor staff on HIV services and management of different clients (HIV exposed infants, pregnant and breastfeeding women, recipients of care) and ensure quality care is rendered in all designated facilities in all aspects of comprehensive HIV care and treatment services.
  • Strengthen monitoring of PBFW including HIV testing and VL testing according to National guidelines in all supported facilities
  • Ensure effective cohort monitoring with well documented outcome at 18 and 24 months
  • Ensure correct documentation in the registers and clients’ files and charts, correct entries in SmartCare and accurate reporting in MCH in all supported facilities within their respective district
  • Work closely with community staff and ensure PMTCT, community activities are being implemented.
  • Review with clinic nurse’s laboratory records to establish the number of rejected EID and VL samples, establish the reasons why samples are rejected, work with facility in-charge.
  • Review with clinic nurses the Bio-hazardous waste disposal and procedures for phlebotomy in the laboratory.
  • Compile reports from the clinic and share accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife/Clinician (BSc, Masters added advantage.)
  • Certificate in ART and PMTCT trainings (Advanced ART training or HNP is a plus)
  • 5-year experience in working in PMTCT program and service provision in MCH activities
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and good communication skills.
  • Basic data analytic skill
  • Demonstrated success in providing hands-on capacity building and technical assistance to health care providers and other stakeholders.
  • Prior experience working with other NGOs and public sector institutions, including MOH
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in project implementation
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good computer skills, including competence in MS Office and internet /e-mail.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in the district of support.
