Job Purpose
To perform professional electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on project facilities and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Zambian standards, project specifications, and occupational health and safety legislation. Support the electrical scope of the Lumwana Expansion Project, working alongside a multidisciplinary and multinational engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate (with Mathematics and Science preferred)
- Craft Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Power Systems from a TEVETA-recognised institution
- Valid Trade Test Certificate – Electrical from a recognised trade testing body
Professional Registration:
- Must be registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) as a Craftsman, Artisan, or Technician (depending on qualification level)
- Familiarity with and adherence to:
- ZABS ZS 374 – Electrical Wiring Code of Practice
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (Cap. 326)
- Energy Regulation Board (ERB) licensing requirements (where applicable)
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years post-training experience in commercial, industrial, or mining electrical installations
- Previous experience on construction or infrastructure expansion projects preferred
- Experience with LV and MV systems, lighting systems, motor control centres (MCCs), earthing, and circuit protection systems
Other Requirements:
- Valid National Registration Card (NRC)
- Recent Police Clearance Certificate
- Medically fit to work in a remote, industrial environment
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform safe installation of electrical equipment and infrastructure in accordance with ZABS and project specifications
- Assist in installation of cable trays, conduits, distribution boards, isolators, and lighting
- Work under the direction of supervisors and in coordination with South African-qualified expat electricians
- Ensure correct use of tools, instruments, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with site policies
- Conduct pre-use inspections, electrical testing, and commissioning support
- Maintain accurate work records, job cards, and handover notes
- Participate in toolbox talks, job hazard analysis (JHA), and daily safety briefings
- Report faults, incidents, and near misses to the site safety officer immediately
Core Competencies & Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and proper installation techniques
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Good communication and teamwork skills in a diverse workforce
- Willingness to learn and operate in a structured, fast-paced project environment
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
Working Conditions
- Site-based work at Lumwana Expansion Project, including possible long shifts and rotation schedules
- Exposure to hot weather, remote conditions, and outdoor environments
- May include work in confined spaces or at heights
- Full compliance with project PPE, environmental, and safety standards is mandatory
