Background
An Electrician under a real estate company is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting electrical systems in residential, commercial, and company-owned properties. The electrician ensures all electrical works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Zambian electrical regulations, EIZ standards, and ZESCO requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fittings, and control systems in buildings and housing units.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical installations.
- Diagnose electrical faults and carry out corrective repairs.
- Install and maintain lighting systems, sockets, circuit breakers, DB boards, generators, and electrical appliances.
- Ensure all electrical works comply with ZESCO regulations and EIZ professional standards.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Test electrical systems using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Attend to emergency electrical breakdowns and power faults.
- Ensure proper earthing and protection systems are installed in all properties.
- Maintain records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and electrical materials used.
- Coordinate with contractors, site supervisors, and property managers during projects.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety procedures at all times.
- Monitor electricity usage and advise management on energy-saving practices.
- Assist during inspections conducted by ZESCO or other regulatory authorities.
Required Qualifications and Requirements
(According to EIZ & ZESCO Standards)
Minimum Academic Qualifications
- Grade 12 School Certificate with credits or better in English and Mathematics.
- Craft Certificate / Technician Certificate / Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Installation from a recognized institution.
Professional Requirements
- Must be registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Must possess a valid EIZ practicing license where applicable.
- Knowledge of ZESCO Limited electrical connection and installation standards.
- Familiarity with Zambian wiring regulations and safety procedures.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years practical experience in electrical installation and maintenance.
- Experience in residential or commercial property maintenance is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and drawings.
- Good troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and able to work on construction and maintenance sites.
Additional Requirements
- Valid NRC or Passport.
- Must be sober-minded and disciplined.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and work beyond normal hours when required.
- Added advantage for candidates with experience in solar systems, generators, or high-voltage installations.
