Position Overview
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and monitoring environmental, health, and safety systems across 1PWR’s operations and projects in Zambia. The role ensures compliance with Zambian environmental, occupational health and safety laws, donor and sponsor EHS requirements, and internal company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Understanding, maintaining, and updating company policies and procedures that effect EHS objectives
- Setting up and managing a project specific monitoring and evaluation (M&E) process for the EHS program to achieve compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Setting up and managing a project-specific internal and stakeholder training program to achieve compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Reporting to management and acting as the point-person for all EHS activity including data collection and reporting. Compiling data as needed to validate compliance to external stakeholders and to drive internal decision-making
- Coordinating internally within corporate divisions with authority to implement EHS policies and verify compliance in Production, Project Development, Construction, and Operations and Maintenance.
- Creating reports and giving presentations internally and externally.
- Staying up to date with EHS best practices
- Communicating with experts in the intersecting fields of energy access and EHS
- Regularly conducting field surveys/ community engagement including occasional overnight and multi-day missions as needed in remote areas
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- 3–5 years EHS experience
- ZOSHA Certification
- NEBOSH certification will be an added advantage
