Job Vacancy: Farm Manager (Pig and Fish Farming)
Location: Samfya, Luapula Province, Zambia
Application Deadline: 30th July 2025
Kalapula Agribusiness Ventures is a new enterprise focused on integrated piggery and fish farming. As we prepare to launch our operations, we’re hiring a Farm Manager to lead our piggery unit, the first phase of the business. This is a key leadership role for someone who understands pig production and can take full ownership of day-to-day operations while helping to build a model farm from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan and manage pig production cycles
- Oversee breeding, farrowing, weaning, and growth stages
- Monitor feed efficiency and adjust systems for optimal output
Animal Health & Welfare
- Enforce animal care and biosecurity protocols
- Detect and respond to health issues promptly
- Maintain high standards of housing, hygiene, and environmental control
Staff Supervision
- Lead, train, and supervise farm workers
- Assign tasks, set daily priorities, and enforce safety practice
Biosecurity & Compliance
- Uphold strict biosecurity procedures to prevent disease outbreaks
- Ensure compliance with health and environmental regulations
Record Keeping & Data Management
- Keep accurate records on feeding, health, production, and expenses
- Analyse performance data to improve operations
- Must have basic knowledge of using a smartphone for data capture and entry
Financial Oversight
- Monitor operational costs and contribute to budgeting
- Support inventory and procurement processes
Strategic Growth Support
- Contribute to infrastructure setup and farm expansion
- Stay informed on pig farming innovations and best practices
What We’re Looking For
- Must be based in Samfya or Mansa, or willing to relocate (farm is located in Samfya, Zambia)
- Proven experience managing a pig farm or livestock operation
- Strong knowledge of pig nutrition, breeding, and health systems
- Leadership ability with team management experience
- Familiar with data collection and farm performance tracking
- Basic smartphone skills for record keeping and data entry
- Understanding of biosecurity, welfare, and environmental standards
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field. A masters degree is an added advantage.
