Background

Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Sugar Company and is the leading Sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugarcane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position under the Agriculture Department:

1. FARM SUPERVISOR – PERMANENT x 1

AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)

This position reports to the Farm Manager and operates within the Agriculture function. The successful candidate will supervise and monitor farm activities to ensure quality and activity targets are achieved as well as assist management in the development of farm plans that ensure long-term growth, development and sustainability.

Key performance areas

  • Supervise all farming activities, timing and quality standards related to cane production
  • Execute and supervise farm resource and activity plans
  • Supervise farm activities and implement continuous improvement measures to ensure adherence to activity standards
  • Monitor correct use of materials and other farm inputs
  • Carryout inspections and activity assessments and submit reports to management
  • Maintain discipline within the team
  • Keep daily record of farm activity data for capturing into cane Pro
  • Assist management in monitoring labor requirement in line with farm plan
  • Implement continuous improvement practices by monitoring work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are applied to deliver high-quality sugar cane
  • Develop skills within the team through on-the-job coaching and mentoring
  • Conduct on the job training and instruction on various farm activities
  • Report any identified risks to management.
  • Monitoring and execution of farm activities by service providers to ensure compliance with standards
  • Promote and adhere to ABF procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Diploma in Agriculture or related fields
  • Preferably 3 years’ experience in sugar cane agriculture
  • Experience with leading teams and resource allocation
  • Good relationship building and maintenance skills
  • Good team leadership skills
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
