Purpose
To support hydrogeological and hydrological activities through high-quality data collection, analysis, and system understanding.
The role focuses on data-driven water management, including water balance support, monitoring systems, and process improvement through digital tools and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and capture:
- Groundwater levels
- Pumping and discharge volumes
- Surface water flows and transfers
- Storage volumes (dams, ponds, sumps)
- Support the site-wide water balance, including:
- Data validation and reconciliation
- Identification of inconsistencies and gaps
- Develop and maintain data systems and tools, including:
- Automated spreadsheets / dashboards
- Basic scripts for data processing and reporting
- Structured data capture workflows
- Assist with visualisation of water systems (GIS, schematics, dashboards)
- Supervise contractors (drilling, installations) where required
- Support hydrology and civil-related activities, including:
- Stormwater and drainage monitoring
- Pump station and pipeline checks
- Liaise with technical teams across the operation
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in one of the following:
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Water)
- Hydrology / Hydrogeology
Experience
0–3 years experience (graduates encouraged to apply)
Demonstrated ability in:
- Data analysis and problem-solving
- Working with large datasets
Advantageous:
- Basic programming (Python, R, or similar)
- GIS (QGIS or similar)
- Exposure to mining or water systems
CORE SKILLS
- Strong analytical and numerical ability
- Ability to identify patterns and inconsistencies in data
- Comfortable working with:
- Excel (advanced)
- Data tools / scripting
- Ability to:
- Learn quickly
- Work independently
- Challenge assumptions with data
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to spend time in the field when required
- Comfortable working between office (data) and site (operations)
