Background

Kalene Hills Fruit Company Limited (“KFCL”) is a company that is wholly owned by Zambia Fruit Company, a 100% subsidiary of the Industrial Development Corporation. The Company is located in Mwinilunga District of North Western Province. The Company has a hybrid fruit and vegetable processing plant with a processing capacity of more than 3 metric tonnes per hour.

As part of its growth strategy, a need has arisen to fill the following position:

Role Overview

The General Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of KHFCL. The role will ensure achievement of the company’s growth strategy, operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and compliance with industry standards. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will lead the management team to deliver on production, commercial, financial, and human capital objectives while aligning the company with IDC’s national development agenda.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures across all business units to ensure consistency and quality assurance in all business activities.
  • Provide oversight of production, procurement, sales, finance, and Human Resource.
  • Drive operational efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure sound financial management, cost control, and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and partners.
  • Promote staff development, performance, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure that a proper Performance Management System is in place and is effectively applied at all levels so that individual KPIs are aligned with Company goals and objectives.
  • Develop and seek Board of Directors’ approval, a clear and achievable product/service road map.
  • Ensure proactive approach to product and service modification to ensure customers are met at their point of need
  • Ensure that a strong Risk, Compliance and Governance Framework is embedded across all functions in the organisation

  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Proven ability in strategy formulation and execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of business operations, governance, and industry processes.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Strong numerical and financial acumen.
  • Ability to translate information into actionable strategies and initiatives.
  • Capacity to adapt to legislative and policy changes affecting the industry.

Job Specifications

Professional Qualification:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Production Management, Business Administration, Food Technology, or other relevant field and / or professional qualifications from a reputable institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Food Science, or related field.
  • Professional membership to a relevant body.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience, with 5 years at senior management level in manufacturing, agribusiness, or industrial operations.
  • Oversee the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures across all business units to ensure consistency and quality assurance in all business activities.
  • Provide oversight of production, procurement, sales, finance, and Human Resource.
