Background
Our client, in the Energy and Petroleum Industry, a downstream oil and gas company operating retail service stations, fuel depots, and bulk supply chains across the country wishes to hire the following positions.
Job Purpose
To ensure reliable operation of standby power systems by performing servicing, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on 30 KVA generators and associated electrical components.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine servicing of 30 KVA diesel/petrol generators (oil/filter changes, coolant checks, battery testing, belt inspections).
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults using multimeters, diagnostic tools, and logical troubleshooting procedures.
- Perform load-bank testing, start-up tests, and automatic transfer switch (ATS) checks to verify generator readiness.
- Carry out repairs on engines, alternators, control panels, wiring harnesses, and safety shutdown systems.
- Maintain service records, job cards, and parts inventories for accountability and warranty tracking.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and site-specific HSE requirements.
- Provide technical support to site teams during power outages or emergency breakdowns.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Technical certificate or diploma in Electrical/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Valid electrical installation or generator service certification (TEVETA or equivalent in Zambia).
- Driver’s license (Class B/C) preferred for mobile service calls.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ hands-on experience with 20–50 KVA generators in commercial/industrial settings.
- Proven track record in troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel/petrol gensets.
- Experience working on construction or petrol-station sites is an added advantage.
Competencies
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure during outages.
- Good record-keeping and communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Site-based role with occasional travel between locations.
- May require on-call availability for emergency breakdowns.
- Exposure to noise, fuel, and electrical hazards; PPE mandatory.
